"The City"
Identity
our first brief was called “The City”. Within the brief there was five themes that we could choose from .
I chose to do identity and place because Liverpool has a lot of places and attractions that is used to identify Liverpool. The most main parts of Liverpool is the Liver building, Liverpool Football Club (LFC), The River Mersey and The Liverpool Coat Of Arms.
To help me start of my ideas I will be doing some primary research such as taking photographs, observational drawings and visiting exhibitions and galleries. The first primary research I am going to do is go around the main attractions of Liverpool and take photographs. From the photographs I take I will be doing observational studies from them.
I have had a few ideas for my final piece. The first idea I had was to do a painting of the Albert Dock, but it never gave the meaning and understanding of the word identity so I looked up the main parts of identity. From doing more research I came to my final idea of redesigning the Liverpool coat of arms. To get me started on my final idea I am going to research heraldic artists. There isn't any obvious artists that I know of that do heraldic art so it will give me more information on how I can produce or make a coat of arms for my design. Also I will be taking a great quantity of photographs so that I can use them as references in my designs so it shows were I have got my ideas from.
I have been thinking on how I could present my final piece. I have tried presenting it in a personalised picture frame but it took all the attention of my design which was the main part of my idea. I think I would like to present my design on a plain background, I'm not to sure on a colourful background or just black or white. I have no limits on the size but I think bigger is better. I also like to use bright and warm colours to make my design eye catching and fun to look at. I will be producing my own designs of the coat of arms so I want be copying anything from the original design apart from the slogan on the banner.
